It’s tough to create a highly anticipated film when the storyline centers on the most common horror movie theme in history: witchcraft. But, I’ll admit it: Robert Eggers’ debut feature The Witch looks absolutely terrifying.
The setting is in colonial New England-pre-Salem Witch Trials-where a family is forced to settle into new land that is surrounded by a forest said to be haunted by witches.
From the trailer, you can basically gather that the baby becomes possessed, probably at the daughter’s expense. Watch it here:
The Witch won Best Director Prize in the U.S. Narrative Competition at the 2015 Sundance Film Festival. The film will debut sometime in 2016.
