‘Wonder Woman’ Absolutely Slayed the Box Office, Broke Records
Not really a surprise, let’s be honest.
Wonder Woman has opened at a worldwide total of $223 million. Let’s break that down.
It opened to a powerful $100.5 million domestically and $122.5 internationally.
That’s a huge deal. Why? Because it marks the biggest opening for a female director ever.
Patty Jenkins, director of Wonder Woman, surpassed the previous record holder of Fifty Shades of Grey (directed by Sam Taylor-Johnson), which brought in $85.2 million its opening weekend in 2015.
More than half of the people who saw the movie were women (52%), which is a huge jump from regular superheroes, which mostly skew towards men.
According to CNN, Paul Dergarabedian, senior media analyst at comScore said,
“Any ridiculous notion that a woman may not be suited to direct a big budget superhero movie is hopefully once and for all shattered.”
Hope so, Paul.
