Yoko Ono To Organize World’s Largest Human Peace Sign to Commemorate John Lennon
John Lennon was kind of an asshole. And for some reason, he developed a self-image that will forever cause people to relate the late Beatle to world peace. Yoko Ono, his widow, has actively worked to maintain that image for nearly 25 years since his death.
To commemorate Lennon on what would be his 75th birthday, Ono is bringing 6,000-10,000 people together to create the world’s largest peace sign in Central Park’s East Meadow. The gathering will take place on Oct. 6, and if all goes as planned, the peace sign will set a Guinness World Record.
The event is free, but Imagine Peace will accept donations towards the John Lennon Educational Tour Bus – a mobile audio/video recording facility for students. Registration will be open to participants until noon on Oct. 6, and the photograph will be taken at 12:30 p.m. Pre-register here.
