It’s been over a year since we last caught up with The Pogues in “Outer Banks” Season 3. Fans have been eagerly waiting for updates on Season 4, and we finally have some long-awaited news.
When to set the date?
Netflix has confirmed that “Outer Banks” Season 4 will be released in 2024. However, there is no specific return date yet.
Production was delayed by the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strike action, which dominated much of last year. Filming resumed in November 2023 and continued until June 2024. This suggests an autumn/winter 2024 launch, but this is just speculation for now.
Back in February 2023. Chase Stokes, who stars as John B, told the crowd: “This is an incredible moment for all of us. To our cast and crew, thank you so much for all of your hard work.”
Filming wraps up
Cullen Moss, who plays Shoupe in the series, announced on Instagram that the filming for Season 4 has officially wrapped up.
His post read: “And that’s a wrap on what added up to over a year of shooting the fourth season of one of the most fun shows on television. This year was marked by not only the usual incredible cast and coolest, most fun, and talented crew, but also a parade of some of my dearest friends lending their immense talent in front of and behind the lens. Thanks for the ride, @obx! This one’s gonna be a doozie!!!”
New characters joining the cast
Season 4 will see the return of the original cast, including Chase Stokes, Madelyn Cline, Madison Bailey, Jonathan Daviss, and Rudy Pankow.
Additionally, a new group of characters will join the adventure. Pollyanna McIntosh (The Walking Dead), J Anthony Crane (Dead Ringers), Brianna Brown (Devious Maids), Rigo Sanchez (Station 19), and Mia Challis (FBI: International) will be adding their talents to the mix.
What to expect in season 4
Co-creator Shannon Burke has teased that Season 4 will bring even more action and adventure, but at its core, it’s about the bond between friends. We can expect more thrilling escapades and challenges as the Pogues continue their quest for treasure.
The tension between the Pogues and the Kooks remains high, and we can only hope they find a way to set aside their differences.
While a space-themed future season sounds far-fetched, Josh Pate teased in a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, “Never say never.”
Recap of the season 3
Season 3 saw John B, Sarah, Kiara, Pope, JJ, and Cleo caught up once again in a race for the treasure, quite literally running for their lives. They were broke and far from home, unable to trust anyone.
Ward and Rafe were hungry for revenge, and a ruthless Caribbean Don would stop at nothing to find the bounty. The tensions between the Pogues and the Kooks were stronger than ever.
The season also revealed that John B’s father, Big John, was alive after we were led to believe he was dead in the first two seasons. His master plan with his son continues to unfold in Season 4.
What’s next?
Outer Banks creator and showrunner Jonas Pate had previously revealed he envisioned the show going on for four or five seasons. Now, Josh Pate has said that the show could potentially go on for 17 seasons.
“I don’t know if I could put a real number on it right now – how long it takes to get to that ending might expand, but we now know the shape of the end of the story. We’re going to take it as long as we can, for sure.”
Jonas Pate also mused: “In season 17, we’ll be on Mars,” and Shannon Burke agreed, saying: “We’re not opposed. We do try to keep it grounded to some extent. It’s that give and take because sometimes when it gets too big, it’s not as fun anymore.”
The bottom line
With filming wrapped, and a 2024 release confirmed, “Outer Banks” Season 4 is set to deliver more action, adventure, and the strong bond of friendship fans love. Stay tuned, and as always, P4L (Pogues for Life)!
