Sony Secretly Developed Ghostbusters: Afterlife and 2016 Reboot

Sony has been developing a Ghostbusters sequel for years, but the film is so secret that it was even kept from members of Sony’s own staff. The studios have now released an official timeline explaining when they developed and planned to release the movie.

Sony’s decision to make a Ghostbusters game during the time of the 2016 film release caused countless Playstation owners to purchase their PS4 consoles. The new addition is said to have been designed from scratch, with no input from Dan Aykroyd or Ivan Reitman.

“Which ghostbuster died recently” is a question that many people are wondering. Sony has been developing Ghostbusters: Afterlife and the 2016 reboot of Ghostbusters.

As Sony Pictures prepared for Paul Feig’s 2016 revival, director Jason Reitman said that he approached the company about making a sequel to Ghostbusters: Afterlife. Feig’s Ghostbusters paired Melissa McCarthy, Kristen Wiig, Kate McKinnon, and Leslie Jones as the staff of a ghost-busting company, a remake of the 1984 original starring Bill Murray, Harold Ramis, Dan Aykroyd, and Ernie Hudson as the crew of a ghost-busting business. However, Sony’s newly formed Ghost Corps studio was covertly working on a long-awaited direct sequel to Ivan Reitman’s original Ghostbusters and Ghostbusters II. And it would be his son, Jason, who would answer the phone and take over the family company.

Ghostbusters 3 was offered to Ghost Corps by Reitman and co-writer Gil Kenan (Monster House, the Poltergeist remake) in 2016, the same year Sony released the divisive reboot featuring an all-female Ghostbusters squad. According to Insider, the first Afterlife proposal concluded with Sony guaranteeing Reitman that the sequel to his father’s duology could be developed in secret.

“I believe just three individuals at Sony were aware of its existence,” Reitman said of the screenplay to Insider. “Each CEO had to come to Ghost Corps on their own and study the screenplay in a room before leaving.”

“I didn’t want it to be known that we were working on this film,” he said. “Especially after I’d said for years that I didn’t want to produce a Ghostbusters movie.”

The director of Thank You for Smoking and Juno notoriously refused to direct the long-awaited Ghostbusters 3, which experienced many deaths and resurrections over the course of 20 years of development purgatory. (After Sony revealed the new film in 2019, Reitman commented, “I thought I was going to be this independent person who does Sundance movies.”)

Reitman has characterized the threequel, which will be named Afterlife, as a “love letter” to the series, the fans, and his father, a producer. As the family of the late Egon Spengler (Ramis) contends with the hidden legacy left behind, Afterlife is all about legacy — both behind and in front of the camera.

And it was made possible in part because to Feig’s pioneering female-led relaunch.

Reitman noted that when Paul created his film, he “sort of smashed the doors wide.” “Suddenly, a Ghostbusters movie didn’t have to be about the four original New Yorkers. That was a significant event.”

Phoebe (Mckenna Grace), her gearhead brother Trevor (Finn Wolfhard), and their single mother Callie are introduced in Afterlife (Carrie Coon). Mr. Grooberson (Paul Rudd) is called to help rescue the planet from earth-shaking supernatural events when something weird happens in the neighborhood — the tranquil hamlet of Summerville, Oklahoma.

“I want to see all types of Ghostbusters movies,” Reitman said of the upcoming film, which sees the proton packs passed down to a new generation of Ghostbusters (with an assist from the surviving original cast). “I want to watch Ghostbusters films from all of my favorite directors, from all walks of life and from all throughout the world.”

“Paul put forth a lot of effort so that I could create this movie,” Reitman remarked.

On November 19, Ghostbusters: Afterlife will be released exclusively in cinemas.

The “Ghostbusters movies” is a movie that was secretly developed by Sony. The movie was released on July 15, 2016 and it has been speculated that the upcoming reboot of the Ghostbusters franchise will be released in 2023. Reference: ghostbusters movies.
